The suggested estimates are what we believe to be fair market value for each item. You may bid above or below the estimate, however low bids are rarely successful. 1. Soft-covered 320 page magazine titled “Popular Mechanics Magazine, Vol. 5 – May, 1936 – No. 5”. This edition features a deep sea diver retrieving treasure from the bottom of the ocean, contains numerous pages of advertisements for different companies in this era, 24 x Est (9½” x 6¾”), binding is tight, some fraying to front cover along spine, Est $40-60.

2. Colourful cartridge box paper label advertising “Setter Cartridges” in red and blue print, featuring a setter dog as t'mark, complete label is 38cm (15”) long x 11cm (4½”) wide, near mint cond, Est $50-75.

3. Colourful jam tin label advertising “Peacock’s Jam”. Produced by “G. Peacock’s Factories, Hobart, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Dunedin”. This label was produced for a 1lb 12oz. size tin and advertises “Melon & Lemon” jam. The central t’mark of this label is a magnificent peacock and it is by far the most colourful jam label that I have ever seen, 32 x Est (12½” x 4½”), mint, Est $10-15.

4. Caramel coloured jug, “Scottish Cream Scotch Whisky” in an attractive black and red t’mark on both sides, base stamped “Argyle Potteries – hcw, Scotland”, Est (5½”) high, mint apart from fine clean crazing, Est $100-140.

5. Cobalt blue jug advertising “Top Notch King George IV Whisky” in blue print on a white shield t’mark on both sides, base stamped “England”, 19.5cm (7¾”) high, very good cond, t’mark on one side is slightly faded, Est $300-400.

6. Grey and white jug advertising “Watson’s No. 10 Scotch” beneath pouring lip and on both sides. The jug is covered with an all over grey and white floral design, base stamped with distiller’s name, most likely Shelley pottery, Est (7”) high, undamaged and in good cond, some light wearing around waist, Est $500-700.

7. White jug advertising “Dunville’s Special Liqueur Whisky” featuring three crowns on one side in a black and red t’mark. The other side is also titled “Dunville’s Whisky” but has the letters “VR” (Victoria Regina) with a crown t’mark. Base stamped “J.A. Campbell, Belfast”, Est (5½”) high, good cond, some light wear to gilding around base edge and gilding to top rim. Est $250-350.

8. Small white jug advertising “Buchanan’s Black & White Scotch Whisky” featuring an oval panel depicting the two terriers on both sides, checkerboard rim, base stamped “Made in England”, Est (4½”) high, good cond, some small scratches and scuffing, Est $250-325.

9. Blue jug featuring a crocodile skin design advertising “White Horse Scotch Whisky” in a white shield t’mark on both sides, base stamped “Shelley”, Est (5½”) high, good cond, small chip to lip, most of silver has worn off handle, Est $300-400.

10. Small “Lesney B-Type Bus, 1912-1920”, cherry red in colour with open seats on top of double deck, advertises “Dewar’s” whisky, Est (2¾”) in length x 3.5cm (1½”) high, appears to be complete with bus driver, fair to good cond, Est $30-40.

Large brown stoneware teapot advertising “Bushells Tea” in a red and blue t'mark, the teapot appears to be 1950s era and has indecipherable potter’s mark on base, the t'mark advertising Bushells Tea appears to have been added at a later date, possibly in the 1970s, 24cm (9½”) high x 33cm (13”) wide from handle to pouring lip, nice piece but unfortunately not as old as we would like, Est $400-600.

No-one unacquainted with Williams’ journal can fully visualise the Fijians of the first half of the 19th century. Hard-covered 312 page book titled “Mountains of Ash – A History of the Sawmills and Tramways of Warburton and District” by Mike McCarthy, published by the Light Railway Research Society of Australia, Melbourne in 2001. The opening of the Warburton Forest to sawmilling on a large scale owes its origin to the appetite of the Bendigo and Ballarat goldmines for timber. From around 1880 the Gippsland Forest provided large quantities of timber but within 10 years or so the cost of transport to the goldfields forced a search for a closer source.
